Prudent defence is the motto of Reserves 2000.
This is meant to convey the idea that using reservists to provide defence capability is prudent spending.
In broad terms five reservists can be maintained for the cost of one full-time soldier or civilian employee of the Department of National Defence.
Not all of Canada's defence requirements can be provided by part-time personnel, but much can, and in so doing Canadians will benefit from better use of their tax dollars.
At the same time more Canadians will benefit from the presence of the Militia in their communities due to part-time employment and training opportunities and back-up to first responders that would not otherwise exist.
No Canadian town or city large enough to support a unit should be denied the opportunity to access what the Militia has to offer both individuals and communities.
